The first time the Irishman nervously offered to make me a sandwich, I watched as small beads of sweat formed on his brow as he hesitated. He kept repeating, "Are you sure? You are such a chefly person, it's just a sandwich after all."
I eagerly reassured the Irishman that fresh thinly sliced turkey breast, Irish cheddar cheese, and Irish butter on a sweet baguette sounded absolutely irresistible and wonderfully uncomplicated, especially to me.

The Irishman's process for making sandwiches is both simple and precise, just like the ingredients he uses. In his arsenal, he has two different baguette sandwiches - one filled with fresh turkey and the other with tuna. I recently introduced a new addition to the mix, Jambon Francaise and Cheese.
The ingredients are simple and easy to find for the infamous turkey sandwich:
A freshly baked, sweet baguette is the star of this sandwich creation. To ensure no bread goes to waste, any leftover baguette can be frozen for future use. Thinly sliced, tender turkey breast takes its place as the main filling, complemented by the rich flavors of aged Irish Cheddar cheese. The bread is skillfully cut in half, with each portion generously buttered on both sides. The turkey is then delicately arranged on the bottom piece of buttered bread, topped with hand-sliced cheese, and sandwiched together with the other half of the baguette. To elevate the taste and texture, the Irishman expertly gives the sandwich a gentle press with both hands, bringing all the flavors together in the most delicious way. A generous serving of crisps are added to the plate to complete the offering.
The Irishman's tuna sandwich is a delightful combination of simplicity and flavor. It's made even more delicious when paired with a Cotes du Rhone from Kermit Lynch. The star of this sandwich is the canned tuna, which is not overwhelmed by any additional seasoning. Although I initially had doubts about the lack of seasoning, the Irishman's wisdom proved me wrong. The combination of tuna, cheddar cheese, and butter is truly mouthwatering.
Over the weekend, I introduced an exquisite addition to our sandwich collection - the Jambon Francaise. Inspired by the Irishman's technique, I generously buttered the baguette, layered it with succulent slices of jambon, and added delicate shavings of aged Irish Cheddar. To top it off, I gave it the perfect finishing touch with an infamous smash.
The Irishman was filled with immense joy upon the arrival of the new addition, just like myself. It transported him back to a cherished memory of relishing Jambon, Fromage, and Beurre baguette sandwiches on Omaha Beach with his beloved Father. Similarly, it evoked in me all the beautiful and simple memories of France. Undoubtedly, the words of the Irishman hold great truth, "Every meal tells a story".
Bia maith leat. Bon Appetit. Spis godt
