Recently the Irishman came home from a trip to Ireland regaling me with stories of the foods he had eaten, the many pints of Guinness he had enjoyed, and how it had filled his belly and soothed his soul.
As he described cooking an authentic Irish breakfast himself, on his sister's stove, my own stomach grumbled with anticipation, craving the delectable combination of savory meats and toasted buttery bread he vividly portrayed.
I had to find the ingredients. After a quick trip to the Google machine, I stumbled upon a fantastic online store aptly named foodireland.com offering a wide selection of authentic Irish ingredients delivered straight to your doorstep. With just a few clicks, I had ordered a complete Irish breakfast along with Brennan's bread. Witnessing this, the Irishman couldn't hide his surprise, called me a "crazy woman", and thanked me for my impulsive decision.
As we prepared for our culinary feast, a proper toaster was bought for the Irishman's house. I would later buy a toaster for my house as "toasting" bread in a steam oven does not work as well as you would think, just ask the Irishman. We also made sure that the refrigerator was stocked with an ample supply of Kerrygold butter. After two long days of anticipation, the package finally arrived, and without wasting a moment, we eagerly tore into its contents. The box revealed Irish sausages, rashers, white and black pudding, and of course, the much-anticipated Brennan's bread.
Taking charge of the cooking duties, the Irishman skillfully fried each of the meats and sausages to golden, crispy perfection. I toasted the bread, intentionally aiming for a dark, almost charred hue—the way both of us prefer it. Slathering our toast with copious amounts of rich Kerrygold butter (by the way, the Irishman insists that the butter be straight from the fridge, ice cold), we took our first bite and were instantly silenced into tasty bliss. Each bite was better than the last leaving us barely able to speak a word until our plates were completely clean and no more bread remained to be toasted.
Since that first bite, I have made sure that my freezer is properly stocked with all the necessary ingredients for Irish Breakfast so anytime the Irishman needs a feeding...
